Veterans Arrive for Veterans/No Boundaries Program
Maine Handicapped Skiing is hosting its Veterans/No Boundaries program February 5 through 9, 2009. Twenty veterans and their guests from Maine, and other states in the East are expected to arrive at MHS’s Sunday River Ski Resort facility on Thursday and Friday. The veterans and their guests will be able to participate in alpine and nordic skiing, snowshoeing and snowboarding during the four day event. MHS will provide lessons, equipment, meals and other entertainment free of charge to the veterans and their guests.
Veterans/No Boundaries is a specially designed program that provides recreational activities to veterans and active service military with physical disabilities who require adaptive techniques in order to participate in sports. The Veterans/No Boundaries program is held twice a year for veterans to help them either return to a sport or try a sport for the first time after becoming disabled.
Maine Handicapped Skiing supports men and women who face many difficult challenges as a result of their disability including the rehabilitation process and coping with family, work and financial changes. MHS also believes it is important to support the service persons spouse or significant other as they adjust to major life changes.
Veterans/No Boundaries is a program of Maine Handicapped Skiing. MHS is Maine’s largest year-round adaptive recreation organization serving over 350 children and adults with physical disabilities each year.
