"Exciting! Life changing! The best thing that's ever happened to me!" These are just some of the words used to describe the Maine Handicapped Skiing experience for both participants and volunteers.
For people with physical disabilities who want to participate in winter or summer sports, MHS offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn new skills, gain self-confidence and have the opportunity to socialize in a very positive and supportive environment.
Maine Handicapped Skiing offers volunteers rich and varied opportunities to give to others. In winter, hundreds of volunteers teach downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing using their skills and expertise to help children and adults with physical disabilities reach new heights of confidence, ability and challenges.
In the summer, volunteers assist participants in a variety of activities including canoeing, kayaking, golf and cycling - at recreational sites throughout Maine.
Participants come to Maine Handicapped Skiing primarily from Maine. But many people travel from New England, the United States, Canada and even Great Britain to participate at MHS.
Winter and summer-it's all win-win at Maine Handicapped Skiing!
